Training for the Burpee Challenge

IntoYou’s Summer Challange is to
1) Complete Jade’s Burpee Madness Test, published on this blog a couple of months ago.
2) Participate in the Burpee Off on March 1st, to get  Summer Challenge Champion!

But how to train for this? You need to be
a) Very good at burpees
b) Motivated to do them

Short of completing the madness test every second day (which is probably the best way to train, but the least motivating way to do it), how can one get fit enough, flexible enough, and strong enough to complete the 200-odd burpees?

Our first group did their challenge today! One of them got to 17 minutes, equal to Jade’s PB. One of them did a modified burpee because of a health issue. We let them sit down between sets, but that’s a luxury that won’t last now we know they can do it!

We think it is our attitude that will stop us. It hurts and it’s boring. We need a distraction.

What i recommend is writing the numbers 1-20 on 20 separate pieces of paper, putting them in a hat, and every minute pulling one out and completing the number on the paper (then throw it away, you don’t want to do 20 reps twice!). The theory is that because you never know if it will be a hard or an easy session, and you wont know if you will do 10 minutes or 20  minutes (because you can stop when it gets too hard, and it might be hard from minute 1), that you will be more inclined to do it.

We would be interested to hear from anyone who tried this approach!

Go Girls! Sweaty and disheveled is a sign of a good session!
