On Wednesday Maddy, Clare, and Charlie had a trainer training date with Jess Cross from Sportif. Jess has a new concept of outdoor group training, in some ways like Step Into Life, but with a more toy-oriented twist! Jess was softly spoken, knowledgeable, generous with her time and knowledge, and allowed her spectacular programming to do the talking! This is actually quite exceptional as many of the trainers that we train with either feel the need to slam us, or are closed about their knowledge because they don’t want to share. For me, being open about your product with other industry members shows confidence and self assurance, and it is really rewarding to work with people like this!
Jess had 5 circuits set up, using kettlebells, resistance bands, yoga mats, TRX, and medicine balls. Each circuit had 4 exercises that we performed for 10 reps until 4 minutes was up. This meant that we could each go at our own pace. The exercises were such that we could try and go slow, but we were still whacked at the end of the 4min!! We had 2min rest and then moved on to the next circuit.
Jess programmed a 4 minute finisher at the end of high intensity tabata cardio, just to be sure that we were done! Mads and I were “done” enough to head straight to Sandbar for a feed! Thanks to Jess for giving up her time and expertise to train us!
Bootcamp was another outdoor session that we participated in on Saturday. For this session, we started with a 5min jog, followed by another couple of minutes of shuttle runs, then a climbing exercise to ensure we were thoroughly warmed up! Once everyone had their jumpers off we did 6 stations between 2 partners for 1min each. Each partner either alternated exercises or worked with/against each other, and then moved on to the next station. This was a faster moving program, reflecting the nature of Tough Mudder – which we are training for! Each obstacle in tough mudder only takes a minute or two, and then we move on.
Needless to say, i am quite sore after these two experiences! I am looking forward to Bootcamp tomorrow, though!
