Running is the most natural thing in the world for humans. In fact, it has been demonstrated by archaeological biologists that we were literally “born to run”, that the “great leap forward” was due to a consistent supply of protein, gained by literally running after our prey until they fell down exhausted. There is a distinction, however, between speed and endurance, and humans are naturally endurance runners. We are built to plod along for sustained periods (if you want to know more, buy Born To Run by Christopher McDougall. There is infinite references that you can follow from his book, as well as it being a fascinating read!).
However, since the advent of Nike and other running shoe brands, we have developed a different (and not better for everyone – running injuries are actually higher, relatively, than they were when we ran in Dunlops). As a result, not everyone will be able to run for sport or fitness.

Running is one of the best methods of weight control, is an effective release for stress hormones, and will boost your “happy” hormones! If you learn to run bare-foot, you don’t even have to buy shoes, and even if you chose to run in shoes, it is one of the cheapest methods of fitness out there! You can run at any time, in any place, in any country, in any weather. There is a fantastic freedom to be able to run if, how, when, and where you chose.
Our Run Group for 2014 is meeting at 9.30am on Saturdays. The program is suitable for learn-to-runners all the way through to seasoned marathoners (who will be doing a few extra laps!). We aim to develop within our participants that fresh feeling that a good run can create, promote a positive & healthy social group, and showcase the wonderful Northern Beaches while we are at it!
They have their first fun run this Sunday, the 5km Mini-MosMarathon. They will then be butts-up training for the Pub2Pub in August.
