As with all our jars, this done-for-you Dal Makhani is infinitely customisable – add meat or vegetables of your choice! Clean out the old veggies from the fridge, no more wasted old carrots here! Local pick up from Bathurst Whole Food Coop or IntoYou (Sydney’s Northern Beaches).
These jars are specifically for busy women who are holding down jobs, running multiple children to and from after school activities, and/or who are interested in the amazing health benefits of a plant-based diet (note – not necessarily a vegetarian diet, just more plants!)… OR the woman (or man) who just can’t be bothered with elaborate meals and just want something easy, healthy, and wholesome for dinner.
Dal Makhani literally means “butter lentils” and this creamy, delicious meal lives up to it’s name, with a whole extra meal to freeze for later! This recipe is packed with lentils, known for their health-promoting effects, including reducing your cholesterol and improving your ability to fight pathogens! One pot is all you’ll need, let it bubble away for an hour, and voila – dinner is served!
The reason lentils are so good for you is in the polyphenols. The most common polyphenols in lentils include phenolic acids, flavan-3-ol, flavonols, anthocyanidins, proanthocyanidins or condensed tannins, and anthocyanins, which play an important role in the prevention of several degenerative diseases in humans, due to their antioxidant activity. Lentil polyphenols also may have antidiabetic, cardioprotective and anticancer activities. The saponins contained in lentils have a plasma cholesterol-lowering effect in humans and are important in reducing the risk of many chronic diseases(1).
This recipe has almost a whole clove of garlic per serve, plus a healthy dollop of ginger, which both have important anti-inflammatory and immune modulating effects(2)(3)… in other words, it’s really good for your immune system!
So enjoy this heart-warming, health-giving, and vitality-ensuring meal once or twice a week; without guilt, shame, or effort!
Dal Makhani is for preventing preventable disease and boosting your ability to fight off pathogens!
