Price Comparison Between Real Food & Junk Food

We read all the time that it is expensive to eat “healthy”, and we have made the point before that perhaps it is a matter of perspective; perhaps we should be more concerned with why junk food is so cheap!

Well, here is another perspective from The Free Range Butcher. What they’ve done is break down the cost per kilo of certain junk food Vs real, properly fed beef . It is an interesting exercise, and be prepared to be surprised! Maybe we won’t be so quick to label junk food as “cheap” in the future!

What You REALLY Get For Your Money
I’ve never been one to shy away from talking about the true cost of quality food. Whenever we’re asked about the pricing of our product we always give a full and transparent explanation of the cost of producing a premium, local product. (You can read one of my responses here.)

I won’t deny that our products are at a medium to high price point, but that’s only one side of the equation – we also need to look at what you get for that price.

To make the point, we’ve put together a comparison of our Grass Fed Beef Mince with some popular ‘cheap’ foods:

For me the two areas that stand out are the price per kilo and the ingredients. Some food for thought!

Until next time,
