Mary’s Got Something to Say About Jade

Mary has been training over a year now (since July 2024) and was introduced to us by Sue Jones, who’s story you can read here! Mary trains once a week in a group setting and increases to twice a week in the school holidays, as she works part time as a primary school teacher. We interviewed her to see whether one group session was enough to feel better in your everyday life, because our mission at IntoYou is to make your life better!!
Why did/do you train at Into Fitness & Nutrition (Jade’s Business at IntoYou)?
I love it! I was reluctant to join a gym but I was encouraged by me neighbour, and feel it was the best decision I have made! I suffer from asthma, bronchiecstas and arthritis. The fitness sessions have really helped to improve me health and fitness. I really enjoy the fast pace of the sessions and the variety of activities. No one session is the same!
Are your sessions meeting your expectations / goals?
Yes! I enjoy the variety of activities, the length of the session (30 minutes) and the professional support of my trainer.
What is the only thing that you can get from Into Fitness & Nutrition, that you cannot get at other gyms or PT studios?
The variety of activities and the flexibility – if you can’t make a session you can make it up. I also like how Jade will adjust activities to suit your specific needs – she makes me huff and puff to improve my respiratory problems! I love the small group sessions.
What is the best thing about your trainer(s)?
Jade is brilliant! She has unlimited knowledge of how bodies work (or don’t work) and can modify activities to suit the varied needs of everyone in the group. She is always bright and bubbly, and goes out of her way to support you. She makes the sessions so much fun I can’t wait to get there. I also love how she will fit me into extra sessions during my holidays.

Mary feeling healthy and happy after her procedure!

Recently, Mary was diagnosed with a heart condition. We have shared the following with her permission:
Mary: Hi Jade, I have been diagnosed with an irregular heartbeat. (65yrs) The cardiologist wants me to rest for the next 2 weeks so I will have to miss the gym. Fingers crossed it will be sorted with medication! I am devastated to have to miss my gym sessions. I look so forward to it each week! Enjoy your weekend and I hope to see you soon!😊

Mary: Hi Jade, I went to the cardiologist today and unfortunately she doesn’t want me at the gym until they can get my heart rate down. I am so disappointed! She is juggling my medication and we hope to see an improvement in the next few weeks. I will keep you posted! Sorry for the inconvenience!😊The doctor said I can do short walks with my dog – nothing to put stress on my heart.

Mary: Hi Jade, Thanks for your email. I had a procedure today at the Mater and they were able to put my heart into sinus rhythm! A wonderful result! I will talk to my cardiologist this week  and let you know when I can return to the gym.😊

Mary: Hi Jade, I saw the cardiologist on Friday. She would like me to wait until my heart rate gets to between 60 – 70 bpm. It has been very low but is improving with the new medication. I will let you know how I am at the end of the week. If it is okay we could do an easy session next week.Sorry to be an inconvenience!

At this point, the doctor was happy for Mary to return to exercise (after 2months of been diagnosed). Jade continues following Mary’s doctor’s advice, and modifying her sessions to suit both Mary and the other members of the group. It is safe to say that Mary was happy that she was at her fittest and strongest leading up to her diagnosis / procedure, as it made her feel comfortable about her recovery and getting back in to exercise again, which she did as soon as she was able!

Congratulations on your return, Mary!
