Make One Change July 2018

Welcome to our first challenge: Avoid preservatives in the 200s…

Read on below for our education program explaining WHY!

Reason to avoid preservative 200 – 203, sorbates. Found in juice, cheese, yoghurt, dips, dried meats, soft drinks, ice cream, baked goods… Sorbates are used to inhibit the growth of mould, but are derived from petroleum and can cause allergic reactions. They're banned for infants and two studies have found that they have the potential to disrupt our DNA*. While there's no double-blind, randomized, controlled study that i can find that demonstrates they're definitively dangerous (in small amounts, drinking petrol is definitely dangerous), nor is there one that demonstrates that they're safe. At the end of the day, all these itty bits of petrol that we ingest, inhale, and rub over our bodies add up… An album named "July 2018" has been added to our facebook page with alternatives found by our #makeonechangeclub (just made that up). Please feel welcome to share our ideas and changes!! *summary from @wholesome_child. Mandy Sacher is a respected Child Nutritionist and author of the book Wholesome Child, summary found page 266. #makeonechangejuly2018

This is why we have to start reading packets… #Repost @tracietalkshealth (@get_repost) • • • This shocked a few when I showed them : Can you spot the difference? Its the same quality brand, yet one is more harmful than the other! _______????????‍♀️???? ________ Grated cheese (right) contains preservative 200 & additive 460, in addition to the base ingredients used to make the Block cheese (Milk, Salt, Starter Culture + Enzyme) ___????????????????????????????????___ ????Preservative 200 (sorbate) is known to cause a variety of health issues, such as digestive upset, skin reactions, respiratory & behavioral problems ????Additive 460 (cellulose) is an insoluble fibre that many people find difficult to digest, and can cause IBS symptoms along with other gut complaints ________????????????????????___ I've had a lot of people ask my opinion about cheeses over the years& this is just one thing to look out for with ALL brands of Grated or Sliced cheese when you're serving regularly ????????‍♀️ If you have any questions, please connect! I'd love to hear from you, Tracie ???? ____________________________________________ #foodlabelreading #kidsfood #familyhealth #guthealth #additivefree #kidsbehaviour #skinhealth #understandingfoodadditives #preservativefreefood #cheeseplease

Nitrates, preservatives 249-252 are found in processed meats (including smoked fish), and canned or frozen products with meat in them (like frozen quiche with bacon). Possible effects from these include recurrant infections, irritable bowel symptoms, headaches, and stomach and bowel cancers… MAKE YOUR OWN | BUY NITRATE FREE | BUY PRESERVATIVE FREE | The thing about this stuff is that there will NEVER be randomised, double blind, control studies because of the ethical questions around "what makes someone sick". Drug companies can experiment in people because they're technically trying to "make people better"… anecdotes is what we are left with. You can buy nitrate free locally from @thefreerangebutcher and @greatsausages . Read the packets in the supermarkets people. #makeonechangejuly2018 Summary from @wholesome_child pg. 267
