Advice from a Stylist: What to pack when you don’t know what to pack!
We are (mostly) mums reading this, and most of us would be doing most of the packing when there’s a bag to be packed. We pack the nappy bag, we pack the dogs gear, we pack a bag for each child. We pack a snack bag, a toy bag, an entertainment bag, and we pack a bag for ourselves. Some of us even pack for our partners!
We pack blankets in case it’s cold, we pack raincoats in case it rains, we pack runners in case we go walking, we pack bikes in case we go cycling, and we pack extra undies in case… never mind.
Then, we’re held to account for overpacking!
I’m sure we have all been guilty of overpacking for a trip, so to make this process a little easier, we have asked our Stylist for her top tips on packing when you don’t know what to pack. Introducing:
The 5-4-3-2-1 Rule…
- 5 tops (including jacket or cardigan)
- 4 bottoms
- 3 dresses
- 2 shoes
- 1 swimsuit
- Plus accessories and underwear
The secret is that with the items you pick, you want to be able to mix and match pretty much everything to create as many outfits as possible.
Colour will affect this so try and pick colours and tones that go with each other and make sure you have some neutral colour pieces in there.
Other things to consider before you begin are the weather, what activities you’ll be doing and events you’ll be going to.
This rule works great as a foundation, and it would be enough for a short trip, but you may wish to add to it for a longer one.
Happy Holidays!!!
