Elanora Reveals it’s Secrets
The trail we intended on completing. We had to keep stopping and comparing it to our Strava tracks, and even then we were not sure!
This week’s hiking group started at Wakooka Ave, Elanora. We hadn’t done the hike before, but saw the trail on another athlete’s post in Strava, and thought we’d give it a go. The hike was only 6k, and the athlete had done it in 1hr 15min so we guestimated it would take us 1.5hrs.
We were wrong.
Apart from the fact it is really steep in sections (everyone has driven up Powderworks Rd, Elanora!), it is also super crumbly, slippery, & rocky terrain. It took us a whole hour to do the first 2k. After that we hit the fire trail and completed the hike in a further 1hr 10min.
Our progress was further hampered by the criss crossing of alternative trails. We were never sure if we were on the right track, we even asked for directions off a mountain biker! However, once we made it back to our cars we realised we had indeed done the whole track that we meant to do, without one wrong turn, despite being terribly confused at a number of intersections!
We had our dogs, because they’re allowed on-leash in the reserve, and only realised that we had crossed into National park (where they’re banned) once we passed a sign on our way OUT! Oops! Luckily we avoided any rangers…
All in all it was still another very pleasant hike, another complete surprise to find such lush bush in Elanora, and it had it’s own lovely scenery and challenges.
We are doing this challenge for a charity called Seven Women. You can help us by joining us on our hikes, or purchasing either hiking group or one of Seven Women’s handmade products from our shop: https://into-you.com.au/shop
