Last Saturday we had a heck of a Bootcamp session! We met at Turrimetta Beach and did 7 games of Ultimate Frisbee. The games were only 2 minutes each, but boy, did they hurt the old lungs!
We started by simply passing the frisbee, to get used to how to throw and catch it. After this we did some modified rugby drills, where you run into the centre and catch the frisbee, then toss it back. We were woefully incompetent, but had fun giving it a go.
Ultimate Frisbee is supposed to be non-contact. It’s like netball, as when you catch the frisbee you have to stop to pass it. You score a point by catching the frisbee in the other team’s zone. Unfortunately a few of us got a little excited (mainly me) and started tackling people to gain possession of the frisbee.
Even if you weren’t tackling or being tackled, the changes of direction and jumping to catch the ball were another level of intensity on top of running on soft sand. Despite being tough, it was great fun, and we all ended up with sand in every orifice. I think everyone would play frisbee again though!
